Because it is so easy to get caught up in the excitement of a vacation, or anything else you may need to travel for, it’s important to know what you’re up against in a world that’s full of uncertainties. As with everything else in life, Murphy’s Law (“Anything that can go wrong, will!”) can and will apply itself to car rentals from time to time as well. This is because, as with everything else in life, humans are involved and we all know that nobody is, nor can they ever be, perfect and the human element comes into play in a lot of situations. However, by using this website you will likely be able to avoid some of the more costly and/or frustrating issues that can arise by learning from other experiences.

With the help of this website and learning from other’s mistakes and using the information to guide you through the, sometimes confusing, process of car rental, you should be able to get underway without an issue. In many cases, one of the most important aspects of renting a car is overlooked because it’s a hassle in and of itself; shopping around. By using the tools on this website, as well as the information contained in it, you should be able to locate a rental company with a proven track record that can also fit into your budget. Fitting into a budget is very important as it’s one of the first things people think about and the last one they want to smudge on.

There are many things that you need to consider when you are traveling, especially out of the country. However, when you rent a car, you must not only think about the issues that may arise, but also verse yourself in the laws surrounding driving and operating a motor vehicle. Thankfully, here are a few ways to help alleviate any fears that you may have and also some things to watch out for.

First, be sure that you research all of the laws at the locality you will be visiting. This will help you to be more confident in your driving and also help you decide if you really want to drive in a different country.

Second, make sure that you study the road signs and variations in the country to ensure that you recognize their meaning immediately. It is very important that you know what is demanded by the law and part of that is knowing what you’re looking at when you see signs.

Finally, be sure to ask for the extra insurance on your vehicle. While most companies include insurance in the cost of the vehicle, it is always a good idea to have as much protection as possible. Also, in the event that you are pulled over or involved in an accident, keep in mind to always carry with you the number for your country’s closest embassy to call for any legal assistance you may need. When you are traveling to a new place, for business or for leisure, you are highly advised to do some research before you leave for all the general information about that particular location, not just for its touristic attractions. You should be concerned with driving laws and renting companies in particular. If you are traveling with a rented vehicle, you must be very well informed in order to avoid car rental bloopers. Car rental bloopers usually happen in the case of people having accidents in a foreign country or not being aware of the different rules there.

In order to avoid car rental bloopers, there are a few things you could look into before departing. In terms of the actual renting of a vehicle, you can avoid car rental bloopers by doing an online research on the best rental companies in the region, so that you get the most suitable deals and the vehicle that meets your requirements accordingly. In addition to this, while browsing through companies, you might want to pay a special amount of attention to the insurance policies they offer. One of the most frequent car rental bloopers of people vacationing somewhere is that they believe insurance is not mandatory or they just forget to contract one. In the unfortunate case of an accident, you will have to pay the company for the damages done to their vehicle. We also recommend that you inform yourself about the mandatory insurance in the said country, so that you can avoid even more car rental bloopers.

A side from keeping safe and avoid accidents, there have been noted some amusing car rental bloopers. These usually happen in countries where the driving is done on the other side of the road than in your homeland or that have a personalized system of driving signs and symbols. Thus, if you are well informed on the driving requirements of the country you are about to visit, you will be able to keep yourself away from car rental bloopers and enjoy your vacation at its maximum.

Never give these guys a rental car

Filed under: Car Rental Bloopers - 17 Aug 2011  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Generally speaking renting a car is a good idea. In this way you ca save an important amount of money and you can use a car for as long as you need one. In addition, there is another situation. Here I am referring to those people who do not deserve a car even if they pay to rent it. In this article you have so videos to exemplify why they do not deserve a car. There are people who only rent cars to destroy them and to try crazy things. Now, watch these videos and you will totally understand what I am talking about…

Some people really don’t know what to do with a car or for what purpose a car serves. I think this guy here didn’t trust what the producer said about the suspensions of the car.

Some people should understand that there are cars made for speed, drifts and things like that and some cars serve for other purposes like comfortable driving.

It is not a good idea to drink first and drive after. When such things happen your car will be the one which will serve like a lab rat. For example this guy is trying hard enough to see what his car can do and which are the limits for this car.

The same guy and the same car! It is clear that it is a good car and it passed some obstacles but for what he is trying to do he may need a tank.

After seeing this video you will understand that having a good car is not always enough. This guy should understand that if you are not a good driver the car is not enough to help you out.

Car Rental Trips That End in Big Problems

Filed under: Car Rental Bloopers - 04 Feb 2011  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Many people who rent cars think nothing of it. Those people that have never rented before have surely heard all of the horror stories about what can go wrong when you don’t do everything perfectly according to the contract. Nevertheless, there is nothing to be afraid of if you keep a few things in mind.

The most common problem with renting a car is people not reading the rental agreement fully. This leads to people exceeding the limitations (mileage, hours, etc.) set for them and they have to pay the difference to the company. Moral of the story: Read ALL contracts.

Another big issue that people find themselves in is that, because cars are machines, they will inevitably fail. Many people pass on the extended coverage insurances when they rent cars, but if a car dies on the side of the road, you may be responsible for repair work. Moral here is, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Final big example is when people are careless because it’s not their car. Again, additional insurance goes a long way, but taking any car out and trying to drive like a professional is not a good idea. Some high end rental companies (that rent Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and the like) can sue you for abusing their cars according to onboard computers. Moral, don’t let yourself get too gung-ho in a rental or you could pay for it later.

The Driving ‘Hall of Fail’

Filed under: Car Rental Bloopers - 01 Feb 2011  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

CAR accidents are no laughing matter; they cause injuries, cost people money and sometimes kill people.

That being said, here are some pictures from unusual road traffic collisions that will leave you wondering just how they happened.

I’m not entirely sure who caused the accident here, whether the Lamborghini has gone into the back of the SUV or the SUV has reversed over the sports car is unclear. One thing is for sure, it’s a pretty incredible picture, and appears to have caused a relatively minimal amount of damage to the cars involved.

I imagine describing this incident to the insurance company was a little less-than straight-forward.

A similar situation here, and again it’s not clear quite how this car has ended up on top of the other.

Worse still, the accident has happened in a parking lot, where you would hope people wouldn’t build up enough speed to mount one another’s vehicles.

So this is a car overturned, on a set of escalators, in what appears to be a shopping mall. Enough said.

Working out who was to blame will be a little more straight-forward in this instance, as it’s unlikely the mall crashed into the yellow car.

Despite their advanced training behind the wheel, even the boys in blue can be involved in baffling car crashes. At least the two officers either side of the car appear to be unhurt.

It’s Car Crash 2: Revenge of the Escalator! This gem from the Driving Hall of Fail makes me wonder whether the driver was coming down the flight of stairs – in which case they got pretty far, or they were attempting to reverse up them, which would seem fairly impossible to the average motorist.

To me, this must have been the result of unintentionally driving the car forwards instead of reversing out of the garage. Either that, or a result of driving into the garage to quickly, or the brakes failing, or…. No, I can’t explain this one either.

In fairness, this is a fairly tame fail. I was surprised how little damage the SUV did to the roof of the Mercedes, and I have to wonder how you go about moving the SUV.

As you can see from Hall of Fail, you don’t have to be at fault to be involved in a bad car accident.

Making sure you are properly insured is very important, and even in these difficult economic times when car insurance rates are rising, you’ll need to be properly covered in case you run into a Hall of Fail inductee.

Use price-comparison sites like Go Compare; Compare the Market and Money Supermarket will give you the best chance of getting a good deal on your car insurance.

All of these images, plus many more fails can be found at http://failblog.org

10 Cool California Road Trips

Filed under: Car Rental Bloopers - 15 Nov 2010  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

California State Route 1, the proverbial Pacific Coast Highway, is the embodiment of a classic road trip. After all, a state that straddles 900 miles of Pacific Ocean coast – a 15 hour drive from the Oregon state line to Tijuana, Mexico – deserves a place in world road trip lore.

Nonetheless, the Golden State is no one-trick road trip pony. So book your rental car, comb through superb hotels in Los Angeles or San Francisco and discover 10 cool California road trips.

Cascade Range Road Trip

The incomparable Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway is a 500 mile-long route that spans both Oregon and California. The All-American Road snakes through the Cascade Range and past remarkable points of interest like Lassen Volcanic National Park, Lake Almanor, McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, Mount Shasta and Lava Beds National Monument.

Escondido High Country and Low Desert Road Trip

People associate San Diego County with sun, surf and sand but the southwest pocket of California has other gems in store. A High Country and Low Desert trip out of Escondido, for one, includes the awesome landscapes of the Palomar Mountains and Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

Complete Bay Area Road Trip

While a good Bay Area road trip should start in San Francisco, it should by no stretch of the imagination leave it there. Dash through the multi-cultural ‘hoods of the peerless city, yes, but also make time for the Santa Cruz Mountains, San Jose, Palo Alto, Monterey Bay and the copious roadside farmers markets on the way.

U.S. Route 395 Road Trip

U.S. Route 395 in California envelops the best of the best of the state. Awesome Sierra valley vistas, ranchlands, the ghost towns of Bodie State Historic Park, Mono Lake and the dramatic summits of Lone Pine and Mount Whitney.

Route 66 Road Trip

The prototype U.S. road trip route is beyond a shadow of a doubt, Route 66. The California portion of the classic road is not long but nonetheless, offers a slew of distractions on the way to Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean.

Interstate 10 Road Trip

Despite some overlap with Route 66, Interstate 10 is well worth a drive. The California stretch of I-10 is handsomely eclectic, from Palm Desert and Coachella to the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail.

San Francisco to Yosemite National Park Road Trip

Any road trip with a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the end of the line is a good road trip. At four hours long, the drive from downtown San Francisco to Yosemite National Park’s El Capitan is just about perfect.

Eureka to Sequoia National Park Road Trip

The North Coast city of Eureka is a wonderful destination in and of itself, with untold natural beauty and cultural points of interest to explore. Take some time to get to know Eureka before you hit the road for Sequoia National Park. The 520 mile journey offers many excellent stops, such as state capital Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto and Fresno.

Inland Empire Road Trip

The Inland Empire of California denotes a loose geographic and urban area that includes Riverside, San Bernardino and Ontario. More than 4 million people call the Inland Empire home and a road trip here should mix in stops at Palm Springs, the Salton Sea and San Bernardino Mountains. Tourists can easily embark on this road trip from Downtown Los Angeles hotels.

Sonoma and the North Coast Road Trip

The North Coast is for some California purists, the most handsome segment of the state. Rural, bucolic and with only one city – Santa Rosa – over 100,000 people, the redwood and vineyard rich area is lovely. Do not miss the charms of Sonoma wine country and the majestic Grove of Titans in Jedediah Smith Redwoods Park (whose location within the park is a bit of a mystery).

Tourist Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road

Filed under: Car Rental Bloopers - 06 Oct 2010  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Across the globe, there are more than fifty countries that drive on the left side of the road. Some of the most prominent countries that drive on the left side of the road are India, Japan, the United Kingdom and South Africa. If someone is used to driving on the right side of the road and travels to a country that drives on the left side of the road, even if they are aware of the difference, it can be difficult to remember this as they are driving in their rental car.

While videos of tourists driving on the wrong side of the road can be quite entertaining, this is an issue that needs to be taken seriously. Not only can driving on the wrong side of the road result in a wreck, but it can result in a wreck that is fatal. For example, in the state of Georgia, driving on the wrong side of the road is the third leading cause of fatal crashes.

If you’re used to driving on the right side of the road and planning a trip to a country where you will be driving in a rental car on the left side of the road, be sure that you are prepared.
